Do I accept health insurance for counseling services?

I do not accept health insurance. I have chosen to be an Out Of Network provider for the following reasons:

  • Our sessions are confidential – when services are billed through insurance, insurance companies have access to your records.

  • I do not have to diagnose you – insurance companies require the provider to make a diagnosis.  Not all people seeking out therapy require or meet the criteria for a diagnosis.  When a diagnosis is made, it stays on your permanent record.

  • You get to decide how long you need therapy – insurance companies dictate the amount of therapy you are covered for and sometimes even the type of therapy.

What does it mean if my insurance plan is Out of Network?

You can opt to pay for services out of pocket.  I can provide you with an itemized receipt you can submit to your insurance provider if you decide to seek reimbursement.

What are the options to file a health insurance claim?

The way to obtain benefits or payment is by submitting a health insurance claim along with an itemized receipt via a form or request. You can file a claim and send in paperwork yourself.

How do I submit an Insurance Claim Form?

1. Obtain itemized receipts. You will need to ask for an itemized bill. An itemized bill lists every service provided and the cost of each service.

2. Get your claim form. You will need to contact your insurance company to obtain a health insurance claim form or download a copy from their website. Your claim form will give you additional instructions pertaining to what other information they may need.  Alternatively, submit your health insurance claim online.  Many insurance companies offer the possibility to log onto your health and medical benefits plan online.

3. Make copies. Once you have your claim form filled out and your itemized bills, don’t forget to make copies of everything. This will eliminate any errors that may be made in the claim process and make it easier for you to re-file your health insurance claim if it gets lost.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your insurance plans customer service department. They are the most qualified to answer any specific question you have about your plan.

What is the cost of a therapy session?

Each 50 minute therapy session is billed at $150.
